Triangle Sports Analytics Competition

Statement of Purpose
The Triangle Sports Analytics Competition aims to bring together students who love sports analytics to compete in a prediction contest. In this competition, participants are able to showcase their skills on two different prediction challenges: point spreads and prediction intervals. The most exciting aspect of this competition is that all ACC Men’s Basketball games between January 31, 2026 and March 7, 2026 will be the focus of this competition. Therefore, if you plan on following your university basketball team’s fight to the NCAA tournament, why not fight for your university’s reputation in data science by competing in the 2nd annual Triangle Sports Analytics Competition.
Details about the contest are found on both the Challenge: Spread page and the Challenge: Interval page.
Entry Requirements
All Duke, NC State, and UNC students are encouraged to participate in one or both challenges. Students may work individually or in a team of 2-5.
All submissions for both challenges will be due at 11:59PM on January 30th. Groups unable to submit on time will be ineligible for participation. This is to promote a fair competition.
Furthermore, we ask you follow the submission guidelines found on both the Challenge: Spread page and the Challenge: Interval page. If your submission is on time but requires a considerable amount of data cleaning, we may allow you to resubmit after you fix the problems.
